In this spectacular Pata painting, Lord Krishna is shown riding a Nari Kunjar (elephant made of gopinis). The artist paints the gopinis in the form of an elephant amidst floral environment. This is a quaint genre of art that has had its origins in Medieval India. This particular art form is called Kunjar, a Sanskrit term meaning the elephant. This is largely due to the place of prominence attributed to the Elephant form in its early designs. An unusual form of art, it was primarily designed to highlight the artist’s skills of composition and ‘assemblage’, most importantly within the parameters of a frame work. Animal frames were commonly used though initially restricted, to those of the Elephant and the Horse. The most impressive aspect of this art form was the innovative use of the figure of the woman, nari, presented usually in multiple numbers. Here even the borders are marked prominently with some floral designs.

Padmasambhava, (the Lotus Born) transmitted Tantric Buddhism to Bhutan and Tibet in the 8th century. (He is also known as Guru Rinpoche, Precious Master). The followers of the Nyingma school regard him as the second Buddha.
According to tradition, Padmasambhava was born as an eight-year-old child appearing in a lotus blossom floating in Lake Dhanakosha, in the kingdom of Uddiyana (Swat Valley of Ancient India in present-day Pakistan).
His special nature was recognized by the local king who married him to one of his daughters, Mandarava. She and Padmasambhava's other main consort, Yeshe Tsogyal, developed into realised practitioners.
Padmasambhava's ability to memorize and comprehend esoteric texts in a single hearing established his reputation as a master. He developed the power to transcend the cycle of birth and death, accomplishing the so-called great transference, otherwise known as Nirvana.

The beautiful brass figure of the Green Tara is nicely carved out with some exquisite and splendid carvings on it. This Buddhist saviour-goddess has numerous manifestations and is widely popular in Nepal, Tibet, and Mongolia. Tara is the feminine counterpart of the Bodhisattva (or the futue Buddha) Avalokitesvara. According to popular belief, Tara came into existence from a tear of Avalokitesvara, which fell to the ground and formed a lake. Out of its waters rose up a lotus, which, on opening, revealed the goddess. Like Avalokitesvara, she is a compassionate, succoring deity who helps men "cross to the other shore." She is the protectress of navigation and earthly travel, as well as of spiritual travel along the path to Enlightenment. The Green Tara (Sanskrit: Syamatara) was believed to be incarnated as the Nepali princess. She is considered by some to be the original Tara and is the female consort or partner of Avalokitesvara. In this beautiful brass figure, she is shown seated on a lotus throne with right leg hanging down, wearing the ornaments of a bodhisattva.
